Made up of cinque terre (five lands), this is literally one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. I have now been three times and it never fails to disappoint. For more information and pictures, click here.

How to get there? Take a train from Firenze S.M.N. to La Spezia and then take a regional train to reach the five lands. Information and times can be found here. Journey time is around 2.5 - 3 hours. 

4) Siena, Tuscany

When I was living in Florence one of my good friends lived in Siena so I got my own personal tour guide. It's a beautiful medieval town which is much smaller than Florence with a rich history. How to get there? Regional trains often run from Firenze S.M.N. and you can buy tickets either online or at the station from the kiosks. Journey time is around 1.5 hours because it's a regional train so takes a little longer. There are also buses but I would recommend the train.

5) Lucca, Tuscany 

Lucca is another cute little Tuscan city known for its well-preserved Renaissance walls which surround the historic city centre and cobblestone streets.

How to get there? Regional trains often run from Firenze S.M.N. and you can buy tickets either online or at the station from the kiosks. Journey time is around 1 hour 20 minutes because it's a regional train so takes a little longer.

6) Naples, Campania

Naples is probably the polar opposite of a place like Milan. Famous for amazing pizza and being the home to the Italian Mafia, it is definitely a super interesting (and yummy) experience. It takes a while to get there but it's worth it, the city itself is not that big and even if you just go for some pizza and sfogliatella (deep fried pastries filled with sweetened ricotta) it's worth it. 7) Pisa, Tuscany 

Famous for the leaning tower of Pisa, or la Torre Pendente in Italian, Pisa is a city frequented by many tourists every year. If you're in Florence it's worth taking a train down there to have a look, it really does look like it's about to fall!

8) Venice, Veneto

Venice is absolutely beautiful and if you haven't been I would definitely recommend going. It is very touristy, but worth it because it's so different to anything else in Italy.

9) Bologna, Emilia-Romagna 

Home to tortellini and bolognese sauce (ragù alla bolognese), Bologna is a great city for foodies. It also has the most beautiful architecture and is famous for its porticoes as well as having the oldest university in the world! For more information and photos click here.

10) Chianti, Tuscany

The perfect place to go for vino lovers. It is Tuscany's largest classified wine region, producing over 8 million cases a year! It is known for red Chianti wine, however it also produces white as well as other reds.

How to get there? It's difficult to get trains to this part of the region as it is mainly agricultural, however if you're thinking of doing a wine tour I would recommend booking one with transport included - if you head to google you'll find so many different ones on offer.
